40-Hour HAZWOPER

Certificate · Course MIG-HAZ-405

Initial training for general site workers at hazardous waste operations. In development — not yet available to buy.

OSHA Outreach training — the 10- and 30-hour Department of Labor cards — is only valid when delivered by an OSHA-authorized provider. This course is in development and is not available to buy. The authorized provider will be named on this page before it goes on sale.

Online training alone does not meet 29 CFR 1910.120. Your employer must also provide hands-on training, access to a qualified trainer, and — for the 40-hour course — three days of supervised field experience before you work on a hazardous-waste site.

The 40-hour HAZWOPER course required by 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(i) for general site workers: those who may be exposed to hazardous substances at or above permissible limits. Covers site characterization, air monitoring, PPE selection, decontamination, the site health and safety plan, and emergency response. This course is in development and cannot be bought yet. HAZWOPER requires hands-on instruction and access to a qualified trainer, which a self-paced online course cannot provide on its own, so we will not offer it until that part is solved. Your employer must also provide a minimum of 3 days of supervised field experience. That requirement is separate from the classroom hours and is not satisfied by any course, ours or anyone else's.
