Lead Safety Awareness

Lead is the hazard most likely to be disturbed by people who were not thinking about lead. Anyone who sands, cuts, burns, blasts, welds, or demolishes a painted surface in a pre-1978 structure can be over the exposure limit within minutes, and lead gives no warning — no smell, no irritation, no immediate symptom. This course covers what lead does to the adult body and why the damage is largely irreversible; the two OSHA standards and which one applies to you; the permissible exposure limit and action level; the construction standard's presumed-exposure tasks, which require protection before a single air sample is taken; exposure assessment and the hierarchy of controls; the practices the standard flatly prohibits; blood lead monitoring, medical removal protection and the pay protection that comes with it; hygiene facilities and the take-home pathway that puts lead on a child's hands; and the training and recordkeeping obligations. This is awareness and compliance training. It is not lead abatement worker or supervisor training, and it is not the EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting certified renovator course — both of those come only from accredited providers, and this course explains where each line falls. Issues a Migna certificate of completion.
