Steel erection is the one construction activity with its own fall protection regime. Everywhere else in Part 1926 the trigger is six feet; in Subpart R it is fifteen, and there are two narrow exceptions above that which exist nowhere else in construction. Getting this wrong in either direction — applying six feet to steel, or applying the steel rules to work that is not steel erection — is a common and consequential error. This course covers what Subpart R reaches; the written notification of concrete strength that must arrive before anyone begins; site layout, access and the site-specific erection plan; hoisting and rigging, including the pre-shift crane inspection and the multiple lift rigging procedure; structural stability, column anchorage and the four-anchor-rod rule; beams, columns, open web steel joists and systems-engineered metal buildings; falling object protection; the 15-foot fall protection trigger and the connector and controlled decking zone exceptions between 15 and 30 feet; custody of fall protection; and the training requirements in 1926.761, including the three special training programmes. Issues a Migna certificate of completion.
