Transportation incidents are consistently the largest single category of work-related deaths in US Bureau of Labor Statistics data, ahead of falls, struck-by, and every industrial hazard the rest of this catalog covers. Most of those deaths involve ordinary vehicles and employees who were not hired to drive. This course is for anyone who drives on company business — sales staff, service technicians, supervisors moving between sites, anyone in a pickup or a van. It covers why no single OSHA standard governs driving and what does apply; distraction, impairment, and fatigue; total stopping distance and why braking distance rises with the square of speed; following distance and space management; intersections and backing, which between them account for most fleet collisions; adverse conditions; pre-trip inspection and journey planning; and what to do at a crash scene. Drivers of commercial motor vehicles are additionally subject to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations — hours of service, inspection reports, and more — and this course marks that boundary rather than pretending to cover it. Issues a Migna certificate of completion.
